On the the Eve of Rosh Hashanah, Sarah, her brother, Aaron, and her mom came to class and gave a wonderful presentation about this Jewish holiday celebrating the world's birthday. It is a time of renewal and forgiveness. It is a time where families eat special bread that is round (like the earth, the cycle of the seasons) and apples and honey. It is also a time to write down things that you have done that are not good things and to let them go -- like giving up bad habits and starting anew. Sarah's brother blew a special horn with different rhythms and sounds -- also representing part of the celebration. Sarah sang a blessing for our feast -- she sang it in Hebrew! The students were able to learn about this family's special tradition with a picture book and lesson by Sarah's mom. It was wonderful!
